Spirit & Song: A Seeker’s Guide for Liturgy and Prayer

Spirit & Song is a worship resource designed for parish youth ministries, Catholic schools and retreat centres that host youth and young adults.

It is divided into The Order of Mass; Mass Settings & Ritual Music; Liturgical Prayer; Psalms, Prayers & Canticles and Songs.

Although Spirit & Song is designed for Catholics, Protestants will still find it useful. The songs are also appropriate for Protestant youth services.

I liked the mixture of psalms put to contemporary music, songs with words in different languages and a few of the songs we “Unitos” sang at youth camps.

The prayer I liked best was “Tuhan Dengar Doa Kami – Oh God, Hear our Prayer”, which was put to music. The second verse is:

“For our leaders, that they may be committed to truth and integrity
as they lead us into the future and speak for those whose lives are voiceless
due to racism, sexism and discrimination.
We pray to the Lord.”

I think we should pray this prayer a lot.
